Author Richard Hummel
Richard Hummel is a cybersecurity analyst by day, father of two (soon to be three) at night, and a writer in the wee hours of the morning and the smell of coffee is a lover's warm embrace. He started writing November 16th, 2017 and by some poetic fate, published his first novel on November 16th, 2018. It was a long road with a lot of ups and downs. He learned so much and gained many valuable friendships and acquaintances along the way.

How does an analyst and father randomly decide to become a writer? The answer is fairly simple, but to do that, there is some background to cover. Nearly a year and a half, almost two years ago, a new phenomena began to surface in America. Much of this was a result of Russian authors bringing a new genre of book to the North American market called LitRPG (Literary Role-Playing Game). As an avid gamer, Richard devoured a series called Play to Live by D. Rus. This was his first taste in this genre that combined his love of reading with his love of Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game (MMORPG). Though Rus was one of the first entrants to the scene, he was quickly followed by many others until American writers and authors started reading in the genre and quickly fell in love with their favorite past times. You see, as a career professional and father, reading and gaming often take a back seat due to the time sink. However, by combining these two, it makes it possible to experience the wonder of a fantasy or science fiction universe while at the same time feeling immersed in a video game.

For almost a year, Richard eagerly devoured any and every LitRPG book he could get his hands on. It wasn't long before Facebook groups, Discord servers, and various mailing lists popped up with specific focus on this genre. It was an opportunity for him to interact with other fans and authors. Soon world-building, game mechanics, and character ideas began forming. At first, he began sharing these in various groups or in author posts. At some point in early November he realized that there was enough material churning in the vast space of his mind, that he could put words to paper and build his own world. It didn't take long before he was enamored with writing and plugged away until Radioactive Evolution was born. The journey, a year in the making, culminated with the publishing of his debut novel which has hit #1 in half a dozen Amazon categories in its first ten days.
