Alan Kealey (Indie Author News): What is your (writing) background?
Kim Pemberton: During the past, I write poems to keep me positive, motivated, and strong. I always have a pen and paper to bring in ideas what comes in my head. I’m also like to write comedies to make people laugh and entertain. Most nights, I preformed an open mic night to read my work for the audience to hear my emotion speak out.

Who are your favorite writers, your favorite books, and who or what are your writing influences?
I would say Harper Lee, Eric Jerome Dickey, Omar Tyree, and Terry McMillan are my favorite authors and I read all their books when it comes out. They write about suspense, drama, romance, and personalities. I was influence with their work and to take a chance to do my story, my way.

"I want to write and write more."

When did you first know that you wanted to be a writer?
A few years back, I was depressed from time to time. When I’m like that, I want to write and write more. I could not stop writing. I kept on going. Every word I can think of to make it a story. A friend of mine saw my work and told me I should make a book about it. After I graduated from college, I had free time in my hands to write a book.

Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
I took a fiction course in college to earn requirement credits. My first book I wrote was called The Flying Dragon in Scotland. It’s about two young boys in the 1910s found a friendly dragon and hid him in the woods during the day and play with him at night. I wrote at least 100 pages for that semester and my professor told me I was gifted of storytelling. She gave me the highest grade in that class.

Tell us about your writing process. Do you have a writing routine?
When I take out a fresh piece of paper, I think hard on ideas to put in my book. I start writing down until I stop. Next, I write an outline for each chapter I’m going to put in and bring the story to life. That way, I can make it clear for me to put the story in order.

Please, describe your desk/workplace.
At night, I sit at my kitchen table when my family sleeping. Therefore, I can write and write more until the sun comes up. I usually do up to 5-8 pages a day.

"The easiest about writing is the characters conversation."

What do you find easiest about writing? What the hardest?

The easiest about writing is the characters conversation. I like to spike up on the story and bring the drama in. The hardest is making sure the chapter is 10 pages or more.

What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Sometimes when I travel to different countries, during the day, I explore the town and enjoy good food. At night, I am focus on my writing and it’s easy for me to think straight. I love to travel and it makes my writing to go faster and think clear.

Kim, please tell us a little about your Contemporary Romance Novel Sandbox.
Sandbox is a deep drama book I wrote about. It’s about the Frenchman Baru Masort trying to find a way to come into America by meeting up with Tamika White. He was a paramedic back in his hometown and wants the opportunity to become one in New York City. His side hobby wanted to become a video game creator to make extra income. The marriage between Baru and Tamika had ended. He made it hard to survive in the big city. Then he met numerous of women by having passion sex with them that got him into deep trouble. Baru did care for the women he was involved with, but they did not trust him.

What inspired you to write the book?
I kept e-mail letters from my ex-boyfriend over the years. He is also French. He said the unusual and weirdest things about people on the Internet. The man’s grammar was very poor because he did not had any feelings, but love to target victims. I got the idea about his life in the past and change the story around. People said I got good stories and like to puzzle them together to come up with something interesting and what comes next.

"[...] good stories and like to puzzle them together"

Who do you see as your target audience and where can we buy the book?
I love to write about drama. People love to read about drama, actions, and romance. I put them all together to make a book. For now, you can buy my book on Amazon, CreateSpace, and Barnes and Noble websites.

What makes your book special?
Sandbox was my first book I wrote. I did not know I was going to become an author when the book was going to be published. I'm willing to give this a chance and write more books in the future.

How would you describe the success of your book so far?
So far, friends, family, and fans were very supportive when my book came out. People were asking if they’re going to be a book-signing event coming up? It’s coming soon in different states.

How long did it take it to write the book?
It took me two years to create Sandbox. I had many ideas comes in my mind every day to make this book. I wrote more than 100,000 words and that’s a challenge and my goal.

"Outlines are the easiest and it will help [...]"

Can you give some advice for other Authors regarding the writing process?
Outlines are the easiest and it will help you a lot of understanding and good progress.

Are you working on another book project? Can you tell us a little about it?
I got two stories I’m writing at the moment:
The sequel of Sandbox: Baru Masort will return with some of the characters.
Dark Punishment: Gina Goodwin had a bad marriage and raising her disable son alone.

Where do you see the book market in 5 or 10 years? Will there be only eBooks and will book stores disappear like record stores disappeared?
The Internet always will be around 24/7. Nowadays, customers purchase items and have them shipped right to their doorstep. eBooks is a start of a new generation when it come to reading tablets and kindle books.

Do you write full-time or do you have a day job? When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I work as a freelance associate producer in various projects from time to time for television and film. Sometime I go traveling to do my own documentary on my free time.

When Frenchman Baru Masort sits down on a Paris city bench next to a distraught but beautiful woman, he’s too overcome with desire to realize that she might just be the ticket to America he’s been dreaming of.

After only one night of explosive love-making, Baru and American Tamika White decide to throw caution to the wind and get married so that Baru can return with his new lady to her home in the Bronx.

But love at first sight soon turns to jealousy, drunkenness, and suspicion on the other side of the pond. Alone in a strange country, Baru turns to internet dating sites to satiate the sexual and emotional appetites Tamika once fed.

When he meets Kaliyah Summers, their attraction builds until it borders on an obsession that threatens to turn Baru into the kind of man he never thought he’d become.
