A young fifteen year old woman is orphaned shortly after arriving in America and is stalked by a drifter who wants her for himself. An older man rescues her from the orphanage and marries her when she turns sixteen. Romance, danger and fleeing a dangerous man wanted for several murders challenges her livelihood and marriage.

All of this is happening while the city of Galveston is blithely unaware of the devastation that awaits just a few short years in the future. By 1900, a monstrous hurricane is brewing in the gulf that will kill thousands and threaten to wipe the city off the map forever.
