A. M. Madden is a wife, a mother, an avid reader of romance novels and now an author as well. The Back-Up Series is A.M. Madden's debut as an author. Alan Kealey (Indie Author News): What is your (writing) background?
A. M. Madden: I don't have one. [LOL] I'm a romance novel junkie. I always enjoyed writing for my school assignments, but that's the extent of my experience.

Who are your favorite writers, your favorite books, and who or what are your writing influences?
My favorite genre is Romance. I've always enjoyed reading all genres, but Romance is what influences me. I love Samantha Towle, S.C. Stephens, Alice Clayton, Colleen Hoover, to name a few.

When did you first know that you wanted to be a writer?
I tried writing a childrens book about ten years ago. Once I started researching how to become published, I tabled the idea and became extremely discouraged. It wasn't my time. My kids are now older, I have more time on my hands, and self-publishing has opened up tremendous opportunities for authors like me.

Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
The Back-Up Series is my debut romance series. I published book 1, Back-Up last July.

Tell us about your writing process. Do you have a writing routine?

Yes, I start with an idea, of course. I then layout a rough outline. As time goes on, I fill a notebook with anything that comes to mind for that particular book.

Please, describe your desk/workplace.
My kitchen table.

"The hardest part would have to be actually starting a new project."

What do you find easiest about writing? What the hardest?
Once I develop the characters, I find it very easy to stick to their personalities. I also have a lot of fun writing in their POV's. The hardest part would have to be actually starting a new project. All these ideas are swirling around in your head, and the first few pages are crucial. Second guessing is a huge deterrent.

What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
The fans I have acquired. Especially when they contact me to say how much they loved my books, or how they wish my characters were real. That is the single biggest compliment a writer can receive.

A.M., please tell us a little about your just released Romance Novel Encore and The Back-Up Series.
Encore is the 3rd book in The Back-Up Series. It is a "where are they now" recap of the characters and what happened to them after Front & Center. I had a lot of fun writing Encore. For those looking for an angst filled, drama filled book, Encore is not it. It really is meant for those who loved Back-Up and Front & Center, and needed more on their favorite characters.

What inspired you to write The Back-Up Series ?
It was a dream. I dreamt I was at a concert, (which is very much my reality. I love music). I was in the front row and witnessed super hot chemistry between the lead singer and his back-up singer.

Who do you see as your target audience?
Anyone who loves to get lost in a realistic, true love, romance.

"The characters are all people I would want to hang out with."

What makes this series special?
I think it's the realistic the story line, the hot rockers, and the steam. The characters are all people I would want to hang out with. They have their flaws, they have their achievements, and they make mistakes.

How would you describe the success of the series so far?
Surreal. It's been amazing and I appreciate every single day where I can continue to write and have people enjoy what I offer.

How long did it take it to write the books?
It took me the longest to write Back-Up, almost five months. Book 2 took about 3 months as did book 3.

"Biggest advice I could give is don't rush it."

Can you give some advice for other Authors regarding the writing process?
I did it all wrong with Back-Up. I had no idea what I was doing. Biggest advice I could give is don't rush it.

Are you working on another book project? Can you tell us a little about it?
Yes, I am working of book 4 of the series. It's about one of my secondary characters, Trey Taylor, who has become quite the rock star among my fans. Trey is a mystery and every is anxious to hear his story. His book is called Backstage. I hope to publish this fall..

Where do you see the book market in 5 or 10 years? Will there be only eBooks and will book stores disappear like record stores disappeared?
I hate to say it, but yes. I feel paperbacks will be reserved as a means to collect signatures or favorite novels. In the year I have been involved in self-publishing, the changes that have occurred in the book world are staggering.

"Kindle, always."

What is your e-reading device of choice?
Kindle, always.

Do you write full-time or do you have a day job? When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I am happy to say that I am now a full time author. When I'm not writing, I'm marketing. When I 'm not marketing, I'm spending my time with my family.
