About the Book

Bloodgifted (Tima Maria Lacoba)
Bloodgifted is a contemporary vampire story set in the beautiful city of Sydney. It’s told from the perspective of the central female character, Laura Dantonville, who appears to have stopped aging in her early twenties. She’s unaware it’s the result of an ancient curse that turned one of her ancestors – Roman soldier, Marcus Antonius Pulcher – into a vampire, nor that there’s a secret community of these creatures who consider her blood a sacred elixir.

They’re waiting for her to come-of-age, for only then, will her blood be considered strong enough to provide the Chosen One with the ability to daywalk.

As such, she becomes the epicenter of a power struggle between two rival groups who want to claim her, one of which is led by Alec Munro, the Princeps or senior Elder of the vampire community and the current Chosen One.

About the Author

Author Tima Maria Lacoba
Tima Maria Lacoba background is in archaeology and Ancient Roman History, especially Roman Britain. She was a practicing archaeologist for many years before taking up high school teaching. It gave her the opportunity to take her students on overseas excursions to visit the amazing archaeological sites they’ve only seen in books.

One day, she surrendered to the itch of writing. After many years reading and correcting her own students’ creative writing tasks and essays, she decided it was time to write her own. It was impossible to hold it in any longer.

Bloodgifted is the result.

In 2011 it was shortlisted in the Atlas Award - sponsored by a boutique Brisbane publisher – and eventually came fourth.
In 2012 year the book was submitted to an international competition hosted by UK publisher, Choclit. Although it didn't win, Bloodgifted reached the round of final ten, and eventually gained seventh place.

Even if she hadn’t achieved this much, Tima would still continue to write. It’s a passion with her. And like every other author, she would love readers to receive as much pleasure reading her books as she has had writing them.

Bloodgifted is just the start of a three part series she's entitled, The Dantonville Legacy. Later, she intends writing individual books on the other characters in the series, for they all have their own story..

Currently, she lives on the Central Coast, an hour’s drive north of Sydney, surrounded by wooded hills, possums and seed-dropping rosellas. Between bouts of writing, she teaches English and History in the local high school, enjoying long walks while dodging the nesting magpies and plotting the next series of books she'd like to write.
