New Indie Book Release: After Rafaela (Jo Chumas)

New Indie Book Release:
After Rafaela - Jo Chumas -
Women's Fiction (November 14, 2012)

“After Rafaela is a coming-of-age novel which explores grief, the loss of innocence and unfulfilled dreams. It also explores the pain of teenage years, and how ‘looking away’ and not supporting those we love can impact lives with devastating consequences. The novel’s message is ‘don’t let others control your destiny.’"

About the Book

After Rafaela tells the story of London schoolgirls Rafaela, India, Lenox and Rebecca who are the closest of friends. They go clubbing together, drink and flirt too much and share each other’s most intimate secrets. But a month-long coming-of-age trip to Italy to celebrate Rafaela’s 18th birthday ends in tragedy when she drowns in Lake Como.

Twenty-two years later and 40-year-old India, Leni and Rebecca’s lives have finally hit rock-bottom. India is fighting for custody of her eight-year-old son Xavier; Rebecca has been made redundant and her flat is being repossessed by the banks; and Leni’s marriage is all but over.

On the anniversary of Rafaela’s death, Leni, India and Rebecca return to the Villa San Antonio on Lake Como to confront their old demons and find out what really happened that tragic night in 1990.

What they discover about Rafaela's life and death changes everything.
