Featured Indie Book on Indie Author News: "Cross Genre" Military Thriller / Women's Fiction Riven Dawn by Mike J. Krentz

Riven Dawn is Mike J. Krentz's Debut Novel and the first book in the FLAGSHIP! Series.

Unlike the standard military thriller or adventure novel, Riven Dawn portrays not only gripping military drama, but also the personal and interpersonal dramas of true-to-life warriors. Heroes all, they face not only cunning enemies, but also the same life challenges as the Americans whose freedom they protect. When it becomes impossible to compartmentalize their warrior and personal lives, they must find a wellspring of inner courage – or else risk failure on the battlefront, or at home.

The Book has been self-published via Purple Papaya (easyepublish.com) and is available on Amazon, B&N, iTunes, and Kobo as eBook - 316 pages - released in August 2012.

About the Book

Kate Mahoney triumphed as a pioneering Navy fighter pilot early in her career. Now in mid-life, she reports aboard the Fleet flagship as the admiral’s Director of Operations.

She carries repressed emotional scars from an abusive childhood and a toxic marriage that ended a dozen years earlier in a physical showdown with her ex-husband. As soon as Kate takes on her new assignment, an escalating maritime confrontation between North and South Korea challenges her operational acumen.

At the same time the various threads of her personal life converge into an escalating turmoil of conflict. A conniving chief of staff seeks to discredit her career. An enigmatic yet alluring Marine colonel evolves from nemesis to confidante. Her rebellious teenage son falls for a mysterious Internet predator and gets in trouble with the law.

The neat compartments of Kate’s life break down, forcing her to re-evaluate her past and future choices. With support from an avuncular physician and her fatherly fleet admiral, she defies convention in desperate struggles to win battles at sea, among her Navy colleagues, and within her own family.

About the Author

      Author Mike J. Krentz
Mike J. Krentz writes short stories and novels about the lives of military men and women, especially their relationships and families. He draws on twenty years Navy experience that included assignments to ships, air wings, and fleets that deployed to the Mediterranean Sea, Persian Gulf, and Western Pacific. From personal immersion with courageous yet sometimes flawed warriors, he portrays the human dramas that challenge military men and women -- conflicts often more provocative than combat action.

Born and raised in Arizona, Mike earned a classical degree in English from the University of San Francisco, a Doctor of Medicine degree from the Medical College of Wisconsin, and a Master of Public Health Degree from Johns Hopkins University.

Following a successful civilian career as an emergency physician, Dr. Krentz rededicated his professional life to serve America's heroes and their families, and to honor the sacrifices they make in defending our freedom and way of life. His last assignment was as 7th Fleet Surgeon on board the flagship, USS BLUE RIDGE -- the inspiration for the FLAGSHIP! series.

During his medical career, Mike published scientific monographs and book chapters in the medical literature. He has recently begun writing fiction. His short story, Final Leg was published on-line by MilSpeak Memo.

Spratly Sundown, the sequel to Riven Dawn, will be the second book in the FLAGSHIP! Series.
