Featured Indie Book on Indie Author News: Dark Comedy Stone Bleeding by Russell Mardell.

Stone Bleeding is a dark dystopian satire on a Britain in anarchy. It deals with the corruption of politics, the rise of celebrity culture and the decline of law and order and asks the question ‘what would you do if there were no rules anymore?’

It is told from three different perspectives, from characters involved in the fall of the country, recounts their versions of events and interweaves their stories to slowly unravel the mystery of what happened to the country. It is a very dark comedy but also a twisted love story with elements of high drama. The reader will be laughing out loud one minute and be horrified the next.

"This Story deals with issues that are happening in society at the moment!"

The Book has been published via Matador (UK) and is available on Amazon, iBooks, B&N and others as eBook and Paperback - 232 pages - released in March 2012.

About the Book

Britain has fallen to anarchy. Politics has imploded and the system has shut down. There isn’t even any benefit to being famous anymore...but even in hell there are love stories left to tell...

Zach, Albie & Archie are not your usual love triangle; the private detective unraveling on a case that threatens his own sanity, TV’s former golden girl who’s just looking for a way out, and the country’s most wanted man, theirs are interconnected lives and loves that hold the dark secrets to a country at war with itself.

Weaving a satirical path through reality TV, politics and one darkly demented love story, Stone Bleeding is a story of worth amongst the worthless, hope amongst the hopeless and love amongst the loveless.

Reviews (Excerpts)

- "[...] Mardell's use of dark satire, observational humour and the incredible twists for which I am sure he will one day be renound for were all very evident.[...]
From battling the pills and insanity to being the leader of the country to a former TV golden girl, each persons story unravels before your eyes enveloped with such humor and description that you can picture each and every moment.
The one liners will have you roaring with laughter, the twists and turns will have you engrossed from start to finish. This is a stunning read, a thriller with splashings of dark comedy, a dark love story with all too familiar undertones.Give it a try - you won't be disappointed!"
- Thomas Walsh

- "This book represents everything we fear for the society we live in and in a very realistic and comprehensible way, looks at the breakdown and fallout of that such society. I found it extremely dark and melancholy in places but that combined with the vein of humour that runs throughout the book, makes it an extremely engrossing read...I couldn't put it down!" - J. A. Mathews

- "[...] Stone Bleeding is a look at `broken Britain' and tells a tale of how our reality TV and celebrity obsessed culture is one step away from this brutally painted picture of life.[...]The end of the book is interesting, and thought provoking. [...] is the mark of a great book; it makes the reader continue to think long after the final page has been turned. " - Sarah Burns

- "[...]This is talented playwright and author, Russell Mardell's first full length novel and I absolutely loved it. Fresh, cynical and poetic and is a damning portrayal of the way 21st century, media obsessed life has become. Brilliant and highly recommended! " - Martin Belcher

About the Author

Author Russell Mardell
Based in the South West of England, Russell Mardell, he originally trained in film production in London whilst trying his hand at screenplays. This led to writing and directing a couple of low budget independent films. Film was always his main passion and is an area Russell plans to work in again.
He was approached to write for the stage, which led to several plays being performed, some of which he also directed.

He'd always planned to try his hand at novel writing but not as early in his career as he actually did. It first came about as he had a number of short stories and ideas that he wanted to work with but they didn’t work as either a film or a play and so after working on them they became the basis for his first short story collection. Surprisingly (says Russell), it was the most gratifying writing work he had done. To find an audience and to prove to himself that there is a readership out there for his work has been wonderful.

Russell Mardell continues to develop further novels alongside screenplays. He is a massive film geek and music fan, supports Everton FC (Soccer) and has a keen interest in animal welfare.

Stone Bleeding is Russell Mardell's second book after publishing a short story collection Silent Bombs Falling on Green Grass in 2010. He has written and directed for the stage in the UK and had five plays performed, including two: The Seventeenth Valentine and Freestate that premiered in London. He is currently writing his third book Bleeker Hill a dystopian horror novel.
